After the success (despite Manchester rain and the small matter of a derby) of our last introduction to Ultimate Frisbee session we've scheduled two more:

Transatlantic Manchester Ultimate Frisbee Derby

Traditionally a derby is played by two close teams. We have a twinned club in Manchester, New Hampshire. The 3140 miles separating the two clubs shouldn't be an issue I feel to hosting a derby.

To make this work DUFFA and MUFF will both play a fixture at their home grounds. We'll split our squad and call half "MUFF" and they will play on behalf of our transatlantic cousins. The other half will wear the DUFFA shirt with the spirit and pride we all know.

The game will be 50 minutes - no cap. We'll keep the scores secret until both games have been played and announce the winner (summing the scores). In the event of a tie away points will count as two.

To make this work anyone playing will have a shirt - a special commemorative DUFFA / MUFF Derby shirt with a unique logo. we're hoping to get these made for less than GBP8 but you would be committing to playing for this if you sign up.

We're going to try really hard to get our local newspapers, radio (possibly even local TV!) to cover this.

DUFFA's 3rd Birthday BBQ & Mini Hat

Membership now stands at over 200 members! Well done DUFFA & thanks everyone. This party is to celebrate you and a throwing around a bit of plastic in a park with some old and new found friends.

The trial was a success. We have a regular booking at the Parrs Wood High School. 2100hrs - 2230hrs every Wednesday.

Our second Christmas party will be held at the Didsbury Cricket Club on the 19th December 2008.

We're hosting a Karaoke party with a slight twist. You have to dress up as a pop star of your choice. Singing is optional!

Tonight we have our last Thursday evening session in Didsbury Park. We're starting at 1630hrs and playing until we can't see the disc coming at us.

Alternative Sports Day

Fancy trying something different? Want to play a team sport other than football, netball or rugby? Come down to Manchester Alternative Sports Day on Saturday 4th October at Platt Fields Park!

We are holding a sports day - but with a twist! FREE to participate, Alternative Sports Day is an opportunity for you to try out three cool sports: Korfball, Ultimate Frisbee and Softball! 3 different sports but with lots in common: they are three of the very few team sports that men and women play together on equal terms; they are field sports that can also be played indoors and they are a lot of fun!

DUFFA HAT Tournament 2008

Didsbury Ultimate Frisbee For Amateurs will sponsor our first tournament, DUFFA Hat 2008! Held on the 26th & 27th of July. The tournament will last all day Saturday and most of Sunday, with the final played late Sunday afternoon. The tournament will take place at the Burnage Rugby Club, Varley Park, Manchester. Shelley's Birthday = Frisbee Golf!

Shelley is turning 30 and thought it would be the perfect excuse to try out Disc Golf at the only course in Britain that was purchased and landscaped for the sport!

Don't worry if you've never played before as neither have I! I've been told that it's really accessible to complete beginners. Derek Robins (owner of Quarry Park Disc Golf and 16 time British Disc Golf Tour Champion) has agreed to be around to lend us golf discs and give us a few pointers.

Discraft has replied with a formal quote for our order, but unfortunately our art was rejected because it had "friz bee" in the text. I have resubmitted the art... it now just says "Didsbury Ultimate" instead of "Didsbury Ultimate Friz bee For Amatuers." I have asked them to charge my credit card and begin the order.

As the clocks have gone back and the cold is setting in we no longer play weekdays. We are looking at trying to find a floodlit pitch or an affordable indoor option.

A baby is born, that baby is DUFFA!

We are now a properly constituted club! We decided to get organised so that we could get a bank account, that being the first step toward getting sports funding from lottery funds or the council. It might take us a while to get through the first funding cycle, but the chances are good that we could get funding for things like t-shirts or indoor pitchs for winter play.

At our first meeting/BBQ, we adopted a constitution and elected an executive committee. Alan Heckman is the Chair, Steve Morgan is the Secretary, John Mulliss is the Treasurer, and Steve Senior, Hannah Spokes, and James Griffin fill out the committee. If you want to be on the formal membership list of DUFFA, tell Steve Morgan; He will add you as long as you have been to two events. There is no membership fee or anything like that. No one has to be a member; DUFFA events will always be open to everyone and welcoming to complete beginners.
